OUR STORY

Erika and Melissa met in January 2015 at their engineering internship in Norwalk, OH. They both agree it was love at first sight and were soon inseparable. They bonded over a shared love of art and spent their first date at the Cleveland Museum of Art on Valentine's Day 2015. Melissa was drawn to Erika's ambition, courage, and beautiful blue eyes. Erika loved Melissa's sense of humor, kindness, and intelligence.

After their internship ended, they took turns commuting between Michigan and Ohio to see one another during their school semesters, at one point travelling almost four hours one way to be able to spend the weekend together! The two shared many significant moments together, including; being together on the day the Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality, Erika receiving a job offer for her dream career, and most importantly, Melissa attending her first frat party. After Erika's graduation, the two went their seperate ways to pursue their careers and explore the world.

Almost six years later, they found each other again in a beautiful twist of fate. Melissa was living in Southern California and Erika relocated to be with her. Erika proposed to Melissa on July 14, 2022 after executing an elaborate plan to keep Melissa from finding out what was happening. Melissa proposed to Erika on September 4, 2022 during a romantic photoshoot in Joshua Tree National Park. About 8 years have passed since the couple first talked about buying engagement rings for each other and they both feel so incredibly lucky to be getting married!

What airport is closest to the hotel and venue?

We recommend all out of town guests fly into San Diego International Airport (SAN).

Other airport options:
Los Angeles International Aiport (LAX) - 95 miles from Oceanside
Long Beach Airport (LGB) - 76 miles from Oceanside
Orange County Airport (SNA) - 57 miles from Oceanside

Please note when booking travel that distance in miles is not an accurate measure of how long a drive will take in California due to frequent heavy traffic.

Will the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception take place indoors or outdoors?

Our wedding day is planned to be fully outdoors. In the event of inclement weather the entire event will be moved into a tent.

What will the weather be like?

We expect the weather to be a high of 70-75 degrees during the day and low of 60 degrees at night. You may experience "June Gloom" during your visit, which is when a marine cloud layer covers coastal cities during the early morning. The marine layer typically burns off between 11 AM - 1 PM and the sun will be out for the remainder of the day.

What should I wear to the wedding?

The brides kindly request that all guests wear summer formal attire to the wedding. This is considered a suit and jacket, pantsuit, or a mid to floor length dress. Please use this as an occasion to get dressed up! No jeans or t-shirts, please.

Still not sure where to start? Take a look at this Pintrest page that we curated just for our guests to gather outfit inspiration from!

Can I wear a predominantly white outfit to the wedding?

No, please let the brides have their moment. Other colors, patterns, and textures are welcome as part of your outfits. White dress shirts are appropriate as part of a suit. We cannot wait to see everyone dressed up!

Can I bring a plus one?

Due to capacity limits at our venue, only guests listed on your invitation will be able to attend the wedding. Your invitation will clearly state if a plus one has been given to you. Please contact one of the brides if you are unsure if you have received a plus one.

Can I bring my young kids?

While we love your kids, we are only able to invite the children of our immediate families. The brides kindly ask that you make other arrangements for children who are not included on your invitation and use this as a night out for yourselves!

What will be served for dinner at the wedding?

While the menu is still in work, dinner will include a variety of options that are dietary restriction friendly. Please indicate any dietary restrictions on your RSVP so that the brides can plan accordingly.

Will there be an open bar at the wedding?

Duh! The brides will also provide a range of non-alcoholic options. The venue has asked that all guests of legal drinking age carry their IDs in order to be served.

Will transportation for guests be provided to and from the wedding venue?

Yes! Transportation will be provided for all guests and will pick up and drop off guests at Cape Rey Resort on the day of the wedding. Shuttle buses will leave Cape Rey between 3:00-3:30 pm and will leave the venue at the end of the night between 10:00-10:30 pm.

Will parking be available at the wedding venue?

Yes! If you choose to drive yourself to the venue there is a limited amount of parking onsite that is free to use.

What time should I arrive at the wedding venue?

Live music starts at 4 pm and the ceremony will start promptly at 4:30 pm. We request all guests to arrive as close to 4pm as possible. We highly recommend utilizing our transportation options for a timely arrival.

When can I RSVP?

The RSVP link will be available once you receive your formal invitation. Your invitation will also include details on plus ones.

What is the deadline to RSVP? What if I miss the deadline?

The deadline to RSVP is listed on your invitation. If we do not receive your RSVP by that date, we will assume you are unable to join us and you will be missed!

Do you have any recommendations for things to do in the area?

Yes, please visit our Local Recommendations page for tips on things to do, places to eat, and other local favorites in the greater San Diego area.

I have never been to a queer wedding before, what should I expect?

Our wedding will be like any other that you've been to! This celebration of our love for each other will be one of the happiest days of our lives and we cannot wait to gather with those that mean the most to us. If you are not comfortable celebrating our commitment, do not think you will be able to respectfully interact with all of our guests, or feel that you would not be able to bring your best and most authentic self to our big day, we kindly ask that you do not attend our wedding.

I have a question that was not covered on this list.

Please reach out directly to Melissa or Erika!
